No, self-care isn’t supposed to be about building a ‘better’ you

It’s about caring for the you that already and always existed.

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” ~Buddha

I’ve been thinking a lot about self-care recently.

Thinking about how it’s been turned into this ugly, not-good-enough self-improvement hustle type thing. I’m seeing so many things about Self-Improvement being an integral part of self-care.

This notion that self-care must be earned or tied into improving ourselves is a lie. The lie that we must always be striving for more, for better and bigger lives and versions of ourselves, is profoundly toxic.

Self-care has nothing to do with making ourselves better at any damn thing – it is simply about taking care of ourselves in a world that would have us bleed ourselves dry.

Your right to receive gentle, compassionate care from yourself in inborn, inherent in your very beingness.

It is independent of anything else but your mere and magical existence.

Remember, you are already worthy of your own loving care and affection.
